Social Security
Just hours after the escape, three fugitives have been captured. A man named
Kenny Jeff Adrien was captured in the streets of Port-Louis. Westley Fabrice and
Mootou Etienette Kinsley, could not leave the boundaries of the prison. Many of
the 16 warden who were on duty yesterday, were injured and had to receive
hospital care. Some were attacked with knives. Among the fugitives there is a
well known by the name of Steeve Daniel Monvoisin who was implicated in a bloody
hold-up at the Mauritius Commercial Bank in which a booty of Rs 51.8 million had
been carried away and the Customer Service Supervisor of the bank was murdered.
Robust operations to capture the escapees. This vast police operation mobilizes all sectors of the CID of the country
including the strength of the Special Mobile Force (SMF), the Major Crime
Investigation Team (MCIT), Groupement Intervention Police Mauritius (GIPME) and
other units of the police force. The operation is under the supervision of the
CPA Vuddamalay the Central CID. The fugitives are considered Habitual Criminals
(HC). To ensure public safety roadblocks have been erected in areas where these
thugs are likely to seek refuge. According to reports, police carry out more
operations in Port-Louis, where it is placed under high surveillance.
The prisoners have well prepared their attack. Around 18 hours, when they made
their rounds before returning to their respective cells, several prisoners
refused to comply with orders of the 16 wardens. The thugs have rebelled and
some armed with knives which they carefully concealed in their clothes, they
went after the guards who watched over them. The rebels have even used the rods
of the guards to attack them. The inmates attacked the guards before locking
them in a cell. Then they jumped the walls of the prison compound to flee
through to the river of Canal Dayot. Some went in groups while others have
preferred to take their solo adventure. Immediately after the alert, Police
Central Stations have mobilized the manpower to launch a major operation with
the logistical support of the DHRUV helicopter. However, as it was dark,
visibility was reduced somewhat disturbed the scope of the pilots. Policemen who
were on leave that Sunday have been ordered to resume work at the prison.
Firefighters, emergency physicians of the medical SAMU went there to assist the
injured. On the other hand, the elements of the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO)
and those of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) examined the site in the
prison compound where the attack took place to determine where the inmates have
absconded and they tried to rebuild their journey.
According to our information, the Central Police Head Quarters classified this
case as a priority issue and major operations will continue across the country
in the coming hours. Meanwhile, about 200 onlookers gathered outside the prison
gates to satisfy their curiosity. They were told to evacuate.
